LONG COLEOPTILE WHEAT
impacts of deep sowing long coleoptile wheat
This trial is designed to quantify the impacts of deep sowing on establishment, heading date, yield and grain quality. To do this, three varieties, Scepter, Magenta and AGT’s newest variety release RAC2721 will be sown at three depths, 40, 80 and 120 mm.
The varieties have been selected due to their relevance and impact they have had on the WA farming system. Scepter will be the short coleoptile control variety, whilst Magenta will be the medium-long coleoptile control that has been trialled in grower scale deep sowing in the past. RAC2721 will be tested against these two controls due to its similarities to Scepter, in parentage and yield, and has a longer coleoptile similar to Magenta.
Treatments will be implemented as a small plot replicated trial which will be statistically analysed to quantify treatment effect.
