PRE-EMERGENT SOIL THROW EFFECTS
seeding interaction with pre-emergent herbicides
Key Points
-
Visual crop bleaching from Overwatch at 2 weeks after seeding. Crop has since recovered.
-
No knockdown was added, to highlight Pre em effects
-
Hard to get seeder placement right. Chose rows most appropriate in counts
-
Some small levels of bleaching evident in Voraxor treatments.
-
Slight reduction observed in plant numbers in on row and luximax plots. Clods/blocking up caused lower plant establishment

Aim
To determine whether placement (inter/edge/on row sowing) has any effect on the level of IBS herbicide damage observed.

Background
With continued focus on optimising seed placement with marginal moisture during seeding the focus on soil throw effect can often be missed. Whether or not pre-emergent chemicals have an increased effect on crops when seeded inter/edge/on row could add a layer of complexity to choosing pre-emergent chemistry as well as seeder set up. Investigating where these differences may lie is important to ensure that we appropriately choose the correct pre-em package especially where newer chemistry is becoming available in the market.
